Samuel Gail was born in New Britain in 1825. He was schooled in New Britain and studied civil engineering and surveying. He became a well know mapmaker.
He moved to Doylestown in 1878 and began a lumberyard during the building boom in the town. He married Elizabeth Seese of Plumstead, whose ancestors came to America on the Mayflower.
They had a son named William Edgar Geil who became a world traveler, author and orator. William took several trips around the world but always returned home to Doylestown.
William had an interesting estate on Easton road (611) just south of the Borough.
