A. Oscar Martin

Well known Doylestown architect, A. Oscar Martin was the son of carpenter and contractor Jonas and Mary Catharine Martin. He graduated from Doylestown High School and pursued his architectural education at Drexel Institute.

He would start his career in Philadelphia and then New York, prior to setting up shop in Doylestown. He was the most prominent architect in Bucks County at the time and his work can be seen all over the area. He worked on a mix of building types, including churches, residences, and office buildings.

Expanding beyond architecture to engineering, Martin became a registered engineer and served as county engineer for Bucks County. Some buildings he designed locally were: Senator Grims (now Kenny House) at Broad & Main Streets, Audition to Fountain house (today a Cigar Shop), the restaurant on South Main Street attached to Jon Rudolph’s building…
