The McIntosh family was one of the earliest families to settle in Doylestown. Elizabeth McIntosh was born Elizabeth Fretz in 1830 and married George McIntosh a local carpenter.
Elizabeth and George owned a house at the corner East State and near maple Avenue that today is owned by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church. Elizabeth ran a boarding house, that she housed many of the local ‘single’ folks.
The picture below is an oil painting done by a boarder, famous local artist, musician and painter Samuel Dubois of Doylestown in 1889.
Her children would become printers for the Intelligencer and work for the Railroad.
